"The Church: More Than A Great Organization!"

In his book Harvest of Humility, John Seamands tells of a wounded soldier who was told to go to the military hospital for treatment. When he arrived at the large and imposing building, he saw two doors, one marked "For the Slightly Wounded" and the other, "For the Seriously Wounded."

He entered the first door and found himself going down a long hall. At the end of it were two more doors, one marked "For Officers" and the other, "For Non-Officers." He entered through the latter and found himself going down another long hall. At the end of it were two more doors, one marked "For Party Members" and the other, "For Non-Party Members." He took the second door, and found himself out on the street.

When the soldier returned home, his mother asked him, "How did you get along at the hospital?" "Well, Mother", he replied, "to tell the truth, the people didn't do anything for me, but you ought to see the tremendous organization they have!"

The church in Sardis, which Revelation speaks of, had a similar reputation. (Read Chapter 3 for details.) This also sounds like a lot of churches today. They have superb organization, where people are busy being busy, but the Spirit of God is not free to work through them, and therefore limiting its ministries.

Brothers and Sisters, You are the Church. I am the Church. We are the Church Together! And the Church was meant to be more than just an organization! It was created to be an organism! Therefore let's continue to do all that we can to keep our reputation of being a church that is alive with the Spirit and provides for the needs of all its members. Let's not be a revolving door that ushers people in and back out on the street without offering them the love of Christ in some profound and meaningful way!

In His Name,

Pastor David
